Normanton to Atherton

Hello all,
We stayed in Normanton for 3 weeks due to the promise of work. Unfortunately, there was very little work forthcoming, but Avril did a lot of haircuts. The weather there was great, & was between 25 & 30 degrees all the time we were there. The upside of our stay was the great swimming pool & hot-spa, that I used daily. Whilst there, we went to the Rodeo, & visited Karumbawhich is fishing Mecca. The seafood in Karumba is cheap, & great quality. We left Normanton on Saturday 25th of June, & drove to Croydon, where we stayed for 2 nights. There was a show called"Poddy Dodgers", which is like a rodeo, on in Croyden for the weekend. Whilst there we came across a couple that we had met in Murray Bridge, shortly before we left on this trip. We went to the rodeo on Sunday, & thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the kids events. Croydon town is very tidy, & has a lot of mining history. On Monday, we travelled to Georgetown which is another old mining town. There isn't much there, except for a fantastic mineral display, which is the biggest & most valuable in Australia. Before I saw this display, I didn't have a great interest in minerals, but this display has certainally changed that. On Tuesday morning, we drove to Mount Surprise where we stayed for 3 nights, & once again ran into John & Linda. The caravan park here has it's own bakery, & cooks meals most nights. On Thursday nights, They cook "Wood oven pizzas" which are great. We went on a train ride & tour on Thursday. This was the "Savanalander", & it took us to Einasleigh, where we met buses that eventually took us back to Mount Surprise. It was an enjoyable trip.
On Friday morning, we headed east toward Atherton. Within a half hour, the weather had gone from calm & warm, to gusty, windy, rainy, & cold. The temperature must have dropped to 20 degrees. When we drove through the mountains, the fog was hiding the tops of mountains, & we needed to have our headlights on. We arrived in Atherton & the weather was no better. We will be staying here for 5 nights, as there is a lot to see in this area.
