Hello all,
We left Erldunda on Monday 6/4/2009. On our way, we saw a very large rock, called Mount Connor, which is considerably bigger than Ayre's Rock. We stopped on the way at Curtain Springs for coffee. This is a working cattle station, that makes the most out of tourism. A good place to stop, but very expensive. We stayed at Ayre's Rock for 2 days & whilst there, went to watch the rock at sunset, Drove around it, went to the interprative centre, & spent some time in the "Olgas".We found the Olgas more interesting. Drove to Kings Canyon on Wednesday, where we stayed for 2 nights. We can't get over oll the lush foliage in the area. This area is classified as semi-desert, & looks fabulous with the red sand & greens & yellows. The highlight of King's Canyon was a helicopter flight over the area. It gives you a totally different perspective on the area.We drove back to Erldunda on Good Friday. A somewhat tense trip as Avril did her first drive with the caravan in tow. Actually she did O.K.but I have aged somewhat. On Easter Saturday, we drove to Alice Springs & saw a few dead kangaroos on the side of the road being eaten by very big wedge tail eagles. When the eagles fly off, just before you get to them, they are slow and look huge as you just miss them. The weather has been excellent with the temperature being in the low 30's. We will be here for about 2 weeks as there is a lot to see, & it will give us time to get the fridge repaired. It stopped working on 240v power 4 weeks out of warranty.
I'll write when we leave Alice Springs.
Love to you all,
Avril & Doug.
