Woomera to Erldunda

Hello everyone,
Whilst in Roxby Downs, we visited Andamooka. Although a bit dumpy, the people were very friendly & it was an interesting place. In one of the pictures that I posted, you will see a washing machine, a clothes line & an ironing board on the side of the road. This is very much the outback Australian humour. After leaving Roxby Downs we drove to Glendambo & spent Monday night there. It had obviously been a great place to stay at one time, but now it is very run down, & the ablutions were poor. On Tuesday Morning, we drove to Coober Pedy, & booked in for 3 nights. We had a wonderful time there, & learned a lot about Opals & Mining. I bought Avril's 70th birthdat present there, but she can't have it until the 3rd of September. On Wednesday afternoon, we droveout of town, & along the "Dog Fence" to the Breakaway Range.
It was in this area that Mad Max & Beyond Thunderdome were filmed. We were at one of the lookouts for sunset, where set up table & chairs, sparkling shiraz, olives, cheese & biscuits, & watched the sunset over the hills. It was beautiful & very romantic, & hard to keep Avril in line. The drive home was very dark, on dirt roads, & I hoped we were on the right road. Luckily we were. WE left on Friday morning, & drove to Marla. Not a bad place to stop overnight, but the ablutions were putrid. Would give it a miss next time. We are now at Erldunda, which is at the intersection of the Stuart Highway & Lassiters Highway. This is an oasis in the desert. We will be here saturday & Sunday nights before heading out to Eyre's Rock.
Love to you all,
Doug & Avril.
