Adelaide to Canberra

Hi there everybody,
Well its that time again, when we Grey Nomads begin our northward migration into warmer climates.
We left Adelaide on Saturday the 27th of March, & drove to Burra, where we stayed for 3 nights. On the way, we stopped in Saddleworth for lunch at the main street pub, & had the best steak sandwich we'd ever had. The caravan park in Burra was small & friendly, & was situated on the river bank where it was an easy walk into town. Arriving on Saturday was a bonus, as the park managers cook everybody tea, & it's free. There were about fifty of us, & the atmosphere was great. Being so close to Clare, we couldn't resist a trip to the wineries, & lunch in Clare. On Tuesday morning, we drove to the metropolis of Yunta for an overnight stay. We had a free night at the imformation bay, which was well equipped for travellers. The pub was has only 5 regulars, & after staying long enough for 1 drink, we knew why. The publican was the most boring person we have ever encountered. The next stop was Broken Hill, where we stayed for 4 nights. The caravan park was nice, the weather was good, & I swam every day. Broken Hill is a nice city with lots of Beautiful buildings, & a few not so nice. It is packed with art galleries & real characters. Silverton is about 30k's out of Broken Hill, & is also full of galleries & museums a pub & a cafe. The cafe is very cheap, & has excellent quality food.We went to Menindee to see the lakes with water flowing into them, & also saw lots of flies & locusts. On Sunday morning, we drove to Mildura, and stated in the Apex River Beach-Caravan Park. Being Easter, we were jammed in between a million tents with heaps of kids & overly keen campers. It wasn't too bad, but it was a bit of a shock to the system. After 3 nights in Mildura, we drove to Balranald, which is a pretty little town. Stayed 1 night before driving to Darlington Point where we stayed for 2 nights. It was only 30 k's away from Griffith, so we went there for a morning. On Saturday morning, we drove to Gundagai for one night, & to see the dog, & then on Sunday, a short drive into Canberra. We will be staying here for a week & hope to see many of the sights including the Paris art show.
I'll post some pictures shortly. Love to you all,
Avril & Doug.
