Hello everyone,
We arrived in Canberra on the 11th of April, on a sunny day. The caravan park left a bit to be desired, but it was the best park in Canberra, & the closest to the city. All the streets here are exceptionally wide & tree lined. It truly is pretty. Whilst in Canberra, we caught up with some friends who live there, Chris & Ken Perrin. They took us out for tea one night, & then for a day out a couple of days later. It was good to see them & we had a wonderful time in their company. They also took us up a mountain to a look-out after dark, where we could see a good deal of the city & its lights.Whilst in Canberra, we went up the Telstra Tower, Saw the War Memorial, Went to the National Gallery to see the Paris art show, & had a tour of new Parliment House. WE will be going back again to see some more of the sights.
We left Canberra on the 18th of April, & drove to Moss Vale in the Southern Highlands. This is a very beautiful part of our country where we spent 2 nights. I have a second cousin in the next town which is called Bowral. Don Bradman's home town. Apart from the usual sightseeing, we spent a memorable afternoon with Bettye Harcus, who always was, & still is, an entertainer. She lives in a retirement village which is beautiful inside & out.
On Tuesday the 20th, we had an easy drive into Sydney, & into the Lane Cove caravan park, which is a national park. We've been here nearly a week, & the weather has been superb. It rained last night, & this morning, but it has to be expected because it's ANZAC DAY. On Wednesday, we went to visit uncle Doug, who's not looking too bad. Then on Thursday, we drove into the Blue Mountains to Oberon, to visit my cousin Isobel & her husband Ian. We had a lovely afternoon & lunch there, & met their daughter in law Yoko, & two of their grand children, Anne & Ewan. At the end of the day, we drove to Bathurst, where we stayed in a B&B for the night. We drove back home on Friday, & stopped for sight seeing at Katoomba, on the way. We will be seeing Cousin Ted & Ruth, on Monday.
Well that's the news for now,
Love to you all,
Avril & Doug,
Mum & Dad,
Nanna & Grandpa.
